If your Animal Rescue Group,
Animal Shelter,
Humane Society, SPCA, or other animal rescue group...
has a Facebook "Friend" page, you are losing supporters!
How do you know if you have
this type of page?... Simple...
If people visiting your
Facebook page have to submit a
"friend request", you have your page setup as a "friend"
page.
Besides being against Facebook
rules, (which states a "friend" or
"personal" page must have the name of the actual person on it,
not a group name)... this type of page drives away supporters!
How???
First, they must request to be
your friend, then wait for it to be
approved. Most people on Facebook (including your supporters)
are busy, with lots to see and do. They will gladly click on a
"like" button,
but waiting for a friend request to be approved is too time consuming.
Secondly... Facebook puts a
statement up that says something like this:
"Do you know XYZ Personally? Do not submit a friend request
unless you know XYZ Personally.
This notice from Facebook often
stops your fans from submitting
a friend request... especially if they have never actually met you. The
other problem with a "friend" page is that you are limited to just
5000 "friends". Looking past the fact that Facebook has
pre-determined
just how popular you can be, having a friend page limits your future
fan base. Having an organization page on Facebook, where your
supporters can simply "like" your page, means you can have
1,000's upon 1,000's of fans, with no restrictions.
If you want to easily obtain
and retain a large base of supporters/fans
on Facebook... ditch the "friend page", and start up a fan page.
